An Ethereal Projection
|
This OBE occurred on 2008-10-16 as the second in a sequence of three experiences. It bears the characteristics of an ethereal projection and belongs to a type of out-of-body experience that clearly distinguishes from lucid dreams and other OBEs I had. I perceived parts of the flaming white subtle body described here before, but this was my first full exit in it. Just recently I discovered that I can also see it after practicing relaxation exercises.

»I lie sleeping awake in the darkness, feeling the approach of the out-of-body state and wait quiescently, letting it happen. The exit occurs as a smooth, but determined movement, the anchorless acceleration causing a tingling sensation in the pit of my stomach. I find myself floating in my loft with perfectly clear vision. My body consists of white plasma, a semitransparent fire in the shape of a human being with extended extremities. I cannot walk in this state, but as I quickly realize, movement can be accomplished through will. It feels like floating in zero gravity using my intent as propulsion, an awkward way of moving. I head to the left and end up at the kitchen. My momentum is too high and still trying to build up counter-propulsion, I pass through the wall into the living room of my neighbour. I am disoriented, my sight is blurry. There is another person, a man, but I ignore him. I just want out. Being in a closed area evokes strong discomfort. I reach the window side and will myself through.
Outside, I quickly regain composure. Before me, or rather below, there is a gathering of people. It seems to be a café of some sort, bistro tables, drinks, talking, laughing. Assessing the surroundings, I have reached the old town area of a city, but though it looks somehow familiar, I do not recognize the place. My attention is caught by a man just about to grip a woman in front of him. He appears drunk and I can almost sense his negative intention. I decide to help and brachiate through the crowd by clutching the heads of the people below, pulling myself forward. Obviously I can interact with objects if I focus on them. Nobody notices, nobody perceives me. Arriving at the drunken man, I instinctively put my flaming white hand to his left temple and he instantly sinks down to the ground. I have no idea what I did or how I did it, but I surely managed to disable the attacker. I assume he passed out, but I don't know for sure. For now I consider that matter done.
Floating ahead I get closer to one of the bistro tables and examine the drinks menu card. Although the writing appears perfectly clear, no artefacts, no change of perception, I am somehow unable to understand the words. It seems to require a lot more concentration, but I'm not interested enough right now. I'm in a rather adventurous mood. Seeing an attractive looking waitress wearing an apron, I decide to spy on her out of an impulse of voyeurism. She walks towards the building belonging to the café and enters the dark and cramped interior. Recalling the discomfort endured before, I prefer to stay outside and explore the adjacencies instead.
Again it proves difficult to control movement. I glide away at great speed, but manage to catch myself and fly back. Having a little space, I further examine my perception. Although it is dark, my vision is much clearer than in waking life. There is an outstanding depth and contrast to it, like a high dynamic range image. I look up to the sky, but a high building is in the way. I float around it and behold a breathtakingly beautiful view. Strangely, there are golden glowing symbols in the clouds. I can but wonder about this surprising phenomenon*.
I realize that going round the building brought me near an old medium-sized church. A strange feeling of Christmas comes over me. Moving around the church, I see a huge Christmas tree made out of gingerbread. I awake.« * Amazingly I discovered a description of the very same perception in the reports of Robert A. Monroe at a later time. Annotatoin (2010-11-16): After further investigation, I think that what I actually experienced, was a mental projection or in other words: I pereived the astral plane from the mental body.
